Vergil Ortiz secured another impressive win at the weekend and soon moved to send a defiant warning to his next opponent Tim Tszyu afterwards.
The two fighters are now set to meet in August with Ortiz having kept his side of the bargain by beating Thomas Dulorme on Saturday.
The unbeaten American knockout artist got a swift victory by delivering a left hook to the body that dropped Dulorme to the canvas and left him writhing in agony. His perfect record now reads 21 wins and no losses, all of them by knockout.
He wasted no time in looking ahead to his next fight and in a video by Sean Zittel he was asked about what he brings to the contest.
“I don’t think my hands are that fast. My advantage is I can adapt whatever you throw at me, I adapt fast, I have a high IQ. People think I’m a come-forward fighter, that’s up to them, I don’t care, I know what I do best. I improvise.”
He was then asked if he was looking forward to the fight with Tszyu.
“Oh yeah, I already have an idea how the fights going to go down. It’s going to be World War Three but it will be technical. We don’t just throw all the soldiers out there and see what happens, it’s tactical.
“It’s a tough fight, those fights are difficult to predict. We’ll study him, we’ll see what we have to do, what we have to work on. I’m hella excited man.”
Ortiz also stated after the fight that he just wants to fight the best.
“I don’t care if it’s the right time or not. People are judging my opponent selection. I don’t choose my opponents, I just take them out. That’s all I have to do. That’s my job. I’m gonna take everybody out.’
Tszyu himself was quick to respond on X, even though he is currently medically suspended after his fight with Sebastian Fundora on March 30.
That saw him take an unexpected loss when he was cut badly at the end of round 3. He fought on despite heavily impaired vision and is no wasting time rebuilding, instead throwing himself right back in the deep end.
“Me and Vergil Ortiz the real main event.”
The pair are set to face on the undercard of Terence Crawford’s fight with WBA super welterweight champ Israil Madrimov.
