Chris Eubank Jr has already established himself as one of Britain’s biggest boxing stars but the ambitious son of a British boxing legend wants more.

The IBO super middleweight champion shares the stage with George Groves on February 17th in Manchester in a fight that sold out remarkably in seven minutes. It’s an opportunity for Eubank Jr to claim his spot in the World Boxing Super Series final fight. Should he go all the way and win the Ali Trophy, next target for Eubank Jr is the United States.
He tells Sky Sports that Las Vegas is ‘the ultimate goal’ for every boxer who wants to achieve Floyd Mayweather Jr like status within the sport.
“That’s the ultimate goal for any fighter, to fight in those big casinos, on that strip in Las Vegas, Madison Square Garden, New York – all those iconic venues,” said Eubank Jr
One might not be surprised when Eubank Jr told that he, in fact, will generate the same type of buzz and hype that Mayweather Jr did.
“Chris Eubank Jr will, in the not too distant future. In the very near future, that’s where I’m going to be – up on the side of the MGM [Grand], name in bright lights. Listen, I’ve made a great name for myself in this country and I will continue to do so, but it’s definitely always been a dream of mine to transform that name over to the American soil, where so many great fighters have proven themselves and become legends.”
The Brighton boxer understands that achieving Mayweather status in boxing does not happen overnight. Eubank Jr believes Floyd’s famous catchphrase sums up his whole legendary career.
“Like he says, hard work and dedication. He lives the life. (He)doesn’t drink.”
He may put on a show for the cameras, but behind closed doors, he’s dedicated, just the same as me,” explained the IBO champion.
Eubank’s next obstacle is WBA World super middleweight champion Groves in Manchester.
There is history, there is beef and it is more than evident that two fighters do not like each other. Eubank Jr believes Groves’ chin is not what it used to be and is unimpressed with his opponents mental game.
“I know who he is. I know who he is as a fighter and I know who he is as a man.
Groves, his chin is susceptible to punishment, and punishment is exactly what he is going to receive on February 17.
“I know his mindset is vulnerable and I’ll exploit those vulnerabilities in the fight.”
