Fabio Wardley stormed to victory as he forced Nathan Gorman’s corner to throw in the towel in a British title fight that lived up to the history of the belt.
Round one saw a better start from Gorman, playing into the narrative that this may be boxer versus puncher. His right uppercuts were the star of the first three minutes, although Wardley took them well.
Wardley moved to the body in the second, finding some success, but Gorman exploited openings when he could. Wardley’s nose was burst open and it looked like Gorman might be running away with it – until it didn’t.
As soon as Wardley tasted blood – his own in this case – he went all out and it worked. Gorman was dropped but beat the count. A thrilling minute followed before he was down again with 20 seconds to go. He got back to his feet again, even firing his own shots off before the bell.

Wardley’s nose was heavily damaged and, like an old school warrior, it seemed to serve as his motivation. Gorman came out bravely in the third, showing no signs of shying away from the action despite knowing full well now the danger of Wardley’s power. For the first time in the fight, both men took a more measured approach and felt out the distance.
Gorman’s jab started working but, like the last round, just as his success came, so did Wardley’s – and the Ipswich man hits harder. The towel came in when he landed a few more clean and the boxing world celebrated with Wardley, thanking him and Gorman for a totally gripping three rounds of boxing.

And just like that, a still undefeated Fabio Wardley is British Heavyweight Champion – following in the footsteps of the likes of Henry Cooper, Lennox Lewis, Anthony Joshua, and Tyson Fury.
