Frank Warren has vowed to stand by Carl Frampton despite his world title defeat to Josh Warrington.
The veteran promoter looks after both fighters and was in full support of the Ulsterman following his reverse at the hands of the Leeds Warrior last weekend.
Frampton was on the wrong end of 116-113, 116-112 and 116-112 scorecards.
And the former two-weight king, who was WBA ‘regular’ and IBF champion down at super-bantamweight before beating Leo Santa Cruz in their first fight at 126 pounds, has said that he will make a decision regarding his future in the sport after the festive period.
But Warren confirmed, in the aftermath of the fight of the year contender at Manchester Arena, that he still has a desire to work with the 31-year-old.
“He is a true warrior and whatever he wants to do I’m there for him. I’m there and that’s it,” said Warren.
“We signed a new contract before the fight and, if he wants to fight on, I’ll support him 100 per cent. If he wants to go up in weight or whatever he wants to do, I’m there for him because he was there for me. I have the utmost respect and admiration for him as a person and as a fighter.”
Frampton said prior to the fight that he thought that Warrington and his team had taken the fight in the belief that he was ‘over the hill’, with the hope being that he would prove the complete opposite.
Warren, however, believes the former European champion who won his first world title against Kiko Martinez outdoors in Belfast, has plenty more to give.
“Has he still got it in him? I’m quite sure he has, but it’s whether he wants to do that. This is the toughest sport of them all,” he added.
“It’s not like he’s a bad-living guy, he’s not one of those guys who blows up in weight, he’s a clean-living athlete but ultimately it’s his and his family’s choice of what he wants to do and I will respect whatever he wants to do and whatever that is, I’m with him.”
