Frank Warren is not happy with Eddie Hearn.
The two promoters are involved in trying to make the biggest fight in British boxing history, involving IBF/WBO and WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and WBC champion Tyson Fury.
For months, websites and social media feeds have been filled with hearsay and whispers from the negotiating table. Yesterday, sectors of the boxing world rejoiced at the news that both men had signed agreements to fight one another, while others were more sceptical and wished to rein in their joy until a venue and date had been announced.
“Everybody signed an agreement that there would be no announcements unless they were joint announcements and that came out the blue yesterday so we’re not happy but it’s out there now there’s nothing we can do about that now,” said Warren who was talking to Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist on Talksport’s Sport Breakfast show.
An annoyed Warren, who co-promotes Fury, was referring to Joshua’s promoter Hearn who broke the news to ESPN’s Mark Kriegel yesterday.
“There’s a long way to go yet,” Warren continued.
“We’ve got to sort out a venue. There’s a couple of venue’s were looking at and that’s where we really are. I can’t even add any more to it. Everybody’s on the same page to make this work and that’s the most important thing.”
The Hall of Fame promoter who has put together some mammoth boxing shows was asked about the magnitude of the fight which carries excitement from Britain to all across the world.
“I think it’s the biggest fight ever in British boxing bar none. You’ve got two guys who hold all versions of the world title between them. It’s massive. It’s a major fight. Nothing compares to it and I’ve been involved in some big fights over the years. They pale into comparison to how enormous this fight is and in world boxing it’s the same, everybody wants to see it. I speak to people over the pond and all they talk about is when is the fight going to happen, that’s the first thing you get out of everybody.”
