Johnny Nelson seemed to know something about the Tyson Fury camp no on else did in the days leading up the postponement of the undisputed fight and now Frank Warren has responded to those rumours.
Former cruiserweight champion turned Sky pundit Nelson claimed last week that ‘The Gypsy King’ had been getting ‘turned over’ by sparring partners and then doubled down on those claims when asked again a second time around.
When the news broke that Fury had indeed been cut so badly in sparring that the fight had to be postponed, he seemed to be vindicated, with Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas one interested party who did not hold back with his rant at ‘coward’ Fury.
Speaking to The Fight Wire, Warren has now wondered how Nelson knew what he thinks he knew.
“How would he know? Let me just ask, how would Johnny Nelson know that? Explain to me. What contact has he got in the camp? Zero. When you see him, tell him, say, who in the camp told you this? It’s just nonsense.”
Warren revealed he had spoken to his son about the camp on the day before the news broke.
“Moses Itauma, he’s been out there sparring. I asked my son, Francis, who manages him, who said how well he looks. It’s just stupid. Johnny, Carl Froch, they’ve got their agenda because they’re not Sky fighters. Come on. It’s just stupid.”
Finally, he had a dig at Nelson – who Warren used to promote – for some of the performances he put on in his career.
“I wish he had got injured in some of his camps and we hadn’t had to suffer watching his fights.”
Right now all eyes are on the rescheduled date when it is hoped we finally get to see a historic undisputed battle.
