Anthony Joshua made headlines for a number of reasons on Sunday night.
The WBA, IBF & IBO World heavyweight champion attended BBC Sports Personality Of The Year awards as he was nominated for the prize. But he caused a bit of confusion by not going along with the dress code and showed up in a black turtleneck instead. Joshua also did not get the win and failed to reach the top three.
In the big picture, the snub should matter little to nothing among boxing fans. Without a doubt, it is a great honour in the moment, but at the end of the day, Joshua has way bigger fish to fry.
‘AJ’ and his promoter Eddie Hearn posted an update on social media regarding the task at hand – Joseph Parker.
“2018 is all about the belts around the big man’s waist,” said Hearn in the video.
Joshua then asked ‘who is first?’, to which Hearn replied the obvious.
“Parker, then Wilder” answered Hearn.
Joshua then pondered why Parker is first on the list.
“He’s the only one who is remotely realistic. Remotely realistic,” said Hearn.
Joshua says he doesn’t like to give false hope but agrees with Hearn that Parker is definitely the sensible one of the two.
“I don’t like to make false promises but I do agree Parker is remotely realistic in negotiations,” told Joshua.
Hearn then added:
“We are easy to work with. We’ve just negotiated a fight with one of the hardest people to negotiate within world boxing, Wladimir Klitschko. Good business, everyone was happy and everyone left with a great taste in their mouth. We’re not trying to be arrogant. We’re not trying to be big headed. It’s my job to make the right deals for you,” said Hearn to Joshua.
Here’s a video of the conversation between Joshua and Hearn.
