Gennady Golovkin is currently scrambling to save his plans to fight in the near future.
He had put in months of effort and money into taking the necessary preparations for his highly anticipated rematch against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
That fight, however, fell through when Alvarez tested positive for Clenbuterol on tests taken on February 17 and February 20.

Golovkin and his team are now working hard to ensure they carry out plans to have the Ukranian involved in his 39th professional engagement.
The president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman has shared that despite Golovkin’s best hopes to keep the May 5th date, Sulaiman shared that it looks unlikely at this point.
“Definitely the fight will not be in Las Vegas, the rules state that there is not enough time to do it there, so it heads to the state of California.”
“They are desperately looking for an opponent to save the show. Golovkin deserves to fight after putting in so much work and preparation,” Sulaiman said.
Of the current crop of middleweights, many have suggested a handful of potential candidates capable of filling in at short notice. Demetrius Andrade, Billy Joe Saunders and Spike O’Sullivan.

Spike O’Sullivan has recently emerged as the frontrunner to secure the GGG fight.
“He is a good fighter, he has been ranked in the WBC, he must fill out the clean boxing paperwork to be accepted, but I think it will be a worthy fight;” Saunders said.
“I hope he is approved because Golovkin deserves to defend his title,” Sulaiman said.
“O’Sullivan was preparing to fight on May 4.”
Sulaiman also added his opinion, that O’Sullivan is a worthy adversary for Golovkin.

“He is a worthy opponent for a voluntary fight. Not a lacklustre fighter or just some random boxer selected to face the best in the world.”
“He is ranked an ready to fight.”
“Munguia is a great opponent, we do not know what he brings, but it would be too early for his career. There are many other names around,” Sulaiman said.
