Tommy Fury defeated Jake Paul to put an end to the Youtuber-turned-boxer’s six fight win streak since turning professional in 2020. Now, it has been revealed what the Brit told Paul after claiming the split-decision victory.
Fury did enough to get the nod on the scorecards, with two of the judges scoring the fight 76-73 in his favour.
Upon initial viewing, many fans felt that Fury was in control for the vast majority of the eight rounds and that he should have won by a unanimous and wider margin, even after being knocked down in the final round and with a deducted point.
Despite a heated rivalry in the build-up to the fight, Fury showed respect to Paul after the final bell and thanked him for a great fight in a clip shared by Top Rank Boxing.
“You’re a tough man, you’ll go along way. You started three years ago, I started when I was six, I have got nothing but love and respect for you bro. It was a great build-up and a great fight, thank you very much.”
Jake Paul has insisted that he will activate his rematch clause to attempt to avenge his maiden career defeat against Fury.
Matchroom promoter, Eddie Hearn, has suggested that Paul’s time would be better spent fighting his fellow influencers and staying away from professional fighters.
The defeat has all-but killed the chances of Jake Paul fighting former super-middleweight champion Carl Froch, who he was calling out before fighting Fury and Froch had some choice words to say about Paul’s performance on the night.
