Mark Habibi, a boxing manager from Wise Owl Boxing, told Ring Magazine on Friday the reason why his fighter Brandon Adams collapsed just one day ahead of a planned Saturday showdown against Caoimhin Agarako.
Adams and Agarako were supposed to compete in a middleweight fight at The Chelsea theater inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
An unbeaten fighter, Irish fighter Agyarko has an 18-0 (7 KOs) record with wins over Troy Williamson and Ishmael Davis, among others.
Though Adams lost a narrow decision to Andreas Katzourakis in Atlanta in 2024 he rebounded in stellar fashion to out-point Serhii Bohachuk over 10 rounds at the Allegiant Stadium in Vegas, last year.
But the issues Adams has endured on the scales, which has scuppered his ability to make it to the ring, suggest, perhaps, his future may not be at middleweight, but further north, at 168 pounds and beyond.
“Brandon was experiencing chest pain early this morning and collapsed in his hotel room and was rushed to the hospital,” Habibi told Mike Coppinger.
“He’s currently been admitted and is undergoing evaluation. More details to follow.”
Habibi continued: “He’s absolutely crushed for not being able to participate in this fight. He gave everything he had in this camp and was looking forward to being at the doorstep of a world title opportunity.
“His heart goes out to his opponent, Agyarko, who travelled overseas to compete and is looking forward to making this fight happen immediately following his recovery.”
Though the card lost its main event, the show itself goes on, with other bouts including Javier Zamarron against Ryan Lee Allen, Michael Osumah vs Sergio Mauricio Gil, and Ebenezer Griffith vs Wayne Boudreaux.
