Why Keyshawn Davis vs. Nahir Albright II Is Happening

The rivalry between Keyshawn Davis and Nahir Albright will get a second chapter on Saturday, May 16, when the pair meet in a 12 round super lightweight main event at Scope Arena, headlining Top Rank’s inaugural broadcast card in partnership with DAZN.

The rematch is not simply a continuation of their 2023 meeting  a majority decision win for Davis that was later overturned following a post-fight ruling after Davis tested positive for marijuana, but the latest chapter in a series of events that have intensified tensions between both camps and added personal stakes to an already competitive matchup.

Norfolk! I’m coming home with a purpose,” Davis said. “On May 16, you’re going to see the best version of Keyshawn Davis. ‘The Businessman’ is ready to handle business in front of my people.”

Their first encounter left room for debate inside the division, but the rivalry escalated significantly months later during a chaotic stretch of events in Norfolk.

That weekend, Davis was originally scheduled to make his first defense of the WBO lightweight title in his hometown against Edwin De Los Santos at the same venue. However, the fight was canceled after Davis failed to make weight, a setback that also resulted in him being stripped of his championship status. What was intended to be a celebratory homecoming turned into a major turning point in his career.

Tensions reportedly escalated further on that same fight card after Nahir Albright defeated Kelvin Davis, Keyshawn’s older brother, adding another layer of friction between the two sides. The situation allegedly carried over into backstage interactions, where emotions ran high between both camps, contributing to what has since become a legitimate rivalry with unresolved personal undertones. From that point forward, Davis vs. Albright stopped being just a competitive rematch on paper.

Davis (14-0, 10 KOs) has since rebuilt momentum in emphatic fashion. The 27 year old captured the WBO lightweight title in February 2025 with a fourth-round stoppage of Denys Berinchyk, before returning at 140 pounds with a statement TKO win over Jamaine Ortiz in January.

Albright (17-2-1, 7 KOs), meanwhile, has strengthened his résumé since their first fight, remaining active against high-level opposition. The Philadelphia native defeated Kelvin Davis, fought Frank Martin to a draw, and continues to position himself as a legitimate contender at 140 pounds.

“All my life I have been an overcomer,” Albright said. “This fight is another obstacle to jump over. I’m ready and grateful.”

In the 10 round welterweight co-feature, former WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs) returns against Canada’s Josh Wagner (19-2, 10 KOs).

Norman  25, previously captured interim WBO gold with a stoppage of Giovani Santillan before being elevated to full champion following Terence Crawford’s move out of the division. He successfully defended the title twice in 2025 before losing the belt to Devin Haney in November.

“The God of War is back,” Norman said. “I stayed patient. I stayed working. Now it’s time to remind the world.”

Wagner enters as a seasoned 12 year professional whose only defeats have come against unbeaten or top-tier opposition, making him a live underdog in the co-feature.

“I’m coming to take over Virginia,” Wagner said. “No man scares me.”

The undercard will also feature appearances from the Davis family, with Kelvin Davis (15-1, 8 KOs) returning in a 10-round welterweight bout and unbeaten prospect Keon Davis (4-0, 3 KOs) scheduled for six rounds.

Promoted by Top Rank in association with RDR Promotions, the event marks the promotional company’s first broadcast under its new DAZN partnership.

“Keyshawn and Nahir left a lot of unfinished business in their 2023 fight,” said Top Rank president Todd duBoef. “Norfolk fans know exactly what this fight means.”

The event streams live on DAZN, with tickets on sale April 16 at 10 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster and the Scope Arena box office.
