Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin will now meet for the WBC Diamond heavyweight title at Matchroom’s Fight Camp in Brentwood, Essex, on August 22.
The honorary belt is bestowed upon fights of historic value. While it can be defended, it holds no mandatory requirement.
Londoner Whyte (27-1, 18 KOs) is already the WBC’s No.1 contender and scheduled to defend the sanctioning body’s interim crown against former WBA champion Povetkin (35-2-1, 24 KOs).
Should he emerge victorious against Povetkin, the Brixton man is mandated to meet current WBC champion Tyson Fury in early 2021 though the Mancunian may vacate his belt to face rival WBA Super, WBO and IBF title-holder Anthony Joshua instead
