Now that a few days have passed, Deontay Wilder has reflected on his loss to Joseph Parker – a result which seriously hampers the American’s future plans in the division.
Parker scored a near shutout on all three cards against Wilder. He boxed intelligently, moving in and out of distance throughout the contest and landing by far the bigger shots.
Wilder moved backward and barely ever pulled the trigger on his famously ferocious right hand. The fact he had fought less than one round in the two years up to the Day of Reckoning card in Saudi Arabia potentially played a part in that.
Speaking again after the fight to 78SPORTSTV, he shared his disappointment at his own showing.
“My timing was off because of inactivity. I’m disappointed because I know I’m a way better fighter than him. I hurt him a few times, but certain shots I didn’t take. It was hesitation and I couldn’t understand why… “
He then claimed neither man did enough to win the fight.
“He has no business beating me at all, not even on a magnificent day for him. He didn’t do nothing, neither of us really did anything.”
Fans won’t be pleased with the assessment of the fight, with the general consensus being that Parker’s performance was a driving factor in how Wilder fought.
