Deontay Wilder, has responded to reports that ‘secret talks’ for a fourth fight with Tyson Fury have been ongoing.
Wilder is looking to make a run back to the top of the heavyweight division and believes the next two years of his career will bring plenty of excitement to the fans.
The former WBC heavyweight champion returned to the ring after back-to-back losses to Fury in devastating fashion, knocking out Robert Helenius in the first round.
Wilder had looked set to face Andy Ruiz Jr in a final eliminator for a shot at Fury’s belt. However, as is so often in boxing, talks have stalled and an announcement seems as far away as ever.
Reports surfaced this week suggesting a possible reason for the delay was that Wilder’s team had been in ‘secret talks’ with Fury’s representatives to stage a fourth fight between the two.
Speaking to 78SportsTV, Wilder was definitive when asked if the rumours were true:
“No.”
However, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ continued by saying another fight with Fury, amongst others, is not far away.
“These fights are coming around. that [Fury fight] won’t be too short [far away] either.
The Usyk fight, all that stuff, it’s coming around. Everything is coming around like it’s supposed to, that’s why we’re lining everything up and doing what we have to do.
I think this year and next year is going to be amazing, I only have a short amount of time left then I’m out of here and when I’m gone, I’m gone.”
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has also flat out denied that any negotiations have taken place.
Fans will be hoping that Usyk will be Fury’s next opponent, in a fight that will crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis.
