After claiming he was the victim of a water spiking and glove tampering plot last week, Deontay Wilder has pleaded for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury to complete their trilogy.
Fury pulled out of a previously agreed third fight with Wilder after claiming their contract had expired following numerous postponements due to Covid-19-influenced scheduling issues and Wilder’s longstanding bicep injury.
Tired of waiting, ‘The Gypsy King’ switched his attentions to a December 5 defence against German contender Agit Kabayel, ahead of a projected two-fight series with unified champion Anthony Joshua in 2021.
Yet Wilder maintains his contract is still valid and has sought a legal remedy with both sides heading to mediation this week. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ last week blamed February’s seventh round defeat to Fury on tampered gloves and spiked water as events took a more ludicrous turn.
Those wild and unfounded allegations infuriated Fury, who vowed never to fight Wilder again. But the American is continuing to push for a fight few people want to see outside his fanbase and immediate circle.
“Hey Tyson Fury, don’t worry about me – I am fine, blessed. The only thing I want from you is for you to honour your agreement and fight me,” tweeted Wilder, who previously drew with Fury in December 2018.
“I gave you two shots when I didn’t have to and it changed your life. Now it is time for you to be a man and give me my shot as you agreed to.”
The case continues.
