Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder appeared in bullish mood on the day of his final media appearance ahead of his anticipated rematch with former titleholder Bermane Stiverne on November 4th. During the press conference, tension arose when Stiverne made prolonged eye contact with Wilder on the podium and threatened him with death.
Wilder responded the favour in an exclusive interview with FightHubTV.com, following the media scrum Wilder firstly touched on his excitement ahead of the encounter and said he hopes to avoid the excuses with a more emphatic victory this time around following Stiverne’s claim that he is fully fighting fit this time around compared to being immensely dehydrated the first time around.
Wilder then moved the conversation topic into a darker place, by saying Stiverne’s conditioning bodes well for him as he ‘hopes he can take it now that he considers (himself) ready’. Wilder then said Stiverne’s comments have taken the fight to ‘a whole different level’. Wilder then made the chilling prediction that ‘somebody will die in the ring on November 4th’ before directly promising the on-air reporter that he will back up that assertion.
Wilder then shared a stark warning ahead of the bout for those on call to be prepared and ready for the consequences of the bout ‘the ambulance better be ready, the medical (team) better be ready, the referee better be ready, they better have that towel ready to be thrown in” Wilder stated before delving into the ongoing bitterness between the pair where he once again highlighted that death is first and foremost on his mind ‘ every blow will mean something, this is death!’
Wilder then spoke frankly of his goal to kill an opponent in the ring, where he said ‘ I want to put a body on my record, I wanna put a body there’. Wilder then once again fired another warning shot at Stiverne by recalling their first encounter and promised an even more gruelling return bout. ‘I beat him to an inch of his life the first time, this time I’m going to end his life’ Wilder said.
Wilder also touched on the finer tactical points of the heavyweight showdown and he holds the belief that Stiverne doesn’t have the offensive weaponry to beat a talent like himself. ‘He brought everything he could bring the first time, he brought all his tricks and all his power. There is nothing he is going to be able to do except pick his spot on the ground where he is going to lay at” Wilder concluded.
