World Champion Reveals He Won’t Be On Matchroom And Queensberry 5 v 5 Despite Rumours

One world champion has revealed that he will not be featuring on the Matchroom & Queensberry 5 v 5 card despite being strongly rumoured.

On Sunday, the weight classes for the much-anticipated event in Saudi Arabia in June were revealed. It is headlined by the undisputed light heavyweight clash between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev with plenty of action including other potential world title fights.

The heavyweight division will feature in two of the fights, while the featherweight, middleweight and light heavyweight division will all also feature with both Warren and Hearn having two picks each. The man funding it all, Turki Al-Sheikh, chose the final weight class.

Following a hugely dramatic night earlier in March which saw him win by knockout in the final seconds of the last round to become world champion when he was down on the scorecards, Ray Ford was one man strongly linked with this tournament.

However, the 24-year-old put paid to that speculation with a simple post on X over the weekend.

“I’m not on that 5v5. I don’t fight til July ?”

By stopping Otabek Kholmatov, the newly crowned WBA world featherweight champion became the first stateside fighter Hearn and Matchroom has guided from debut to becoming a belt holder.

He could now be looking to fight the likes of Nick Ball, or fellow Matchroom fighters Leigh Wood or Josh Warrington over in the UK in summer.
