Regis Prograis is in the gym awaiting a second defence of his WBC world super lightweight title and in the meantime has shared his views of the upcoming fight between Jermell Charlo and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
The fight announcement came as something of a surprise as it was long thought that Charlo’s twin brother, Jermall, would be the one to get the fight. It will be the first of a three-fight deal Canelo has signed with PBC since moving away from Matchroom and DAZN.
Speaking to ESNEWS, Prograis breaks down the fight, believing Charlo will get the victory.
“Man, I think it’s a better fight than Jermall.
Jermell is more hungry right now at this point in his career. Jermall was calling out Floyd a long time ago, didn’t want to fight Canelo, I think Jermell is naturally the bigger fighter, taller, he fights at 154 but still I think Jermell is the bigger fighter and Jermell is super hungry, super motivated, super confident.
I said man, you gonna beat Canelo.”
Charlo is now 33 years old and as of yet has never competed above 154 pounds. Alvarez, meanwhile, despite being 4 inches shorter and with a 2½-inch reach disadvantage, has won legitimate titles as high up as 175lbs.
Canelo’s last outing was a successful defence of all four of the world super middleweight titles against John Ryder in May this year, and Charlo was last out in May the previous year with a knockout win over Brian Carlos Castano to retain all four of his world super welterweight belts.
It is an intriguing match-up that Liam Smith – the last opponent Canelo faced at super welterweight when he won his WBO world title – can only see ending with the Mexican getting his hand raised.
