Zhilei Zhang was one of the most unlikely breakout stars of 2023 and is now in camp for another huge fight on March 8, but before that he has shared his views on the much anticipated undisputed title fight that is currently in the works.
Zhang had just two fights in 2023 but both very much shot him up the rankings and into top-level discussions when it comes to the heavyweight divisions.
The 40-year-old ‘Big Bang’ from China twice faced Joe Joyce, and twice knocked him out, the first time in six rounds, the second time just six months later in only three rounds, and in even more destructive one-punch fashion.
That fight is set to take place in Saudi Arabia, as could be the much-discussed coming together of Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev, who between them hold all four of the major belts in the light heavyweight divisions.
Speaking to FightHype, Zhang shared his excitement for the contest and then picked a winner.
“I think that’s a great fight, I will definitely stay up and watch that fight. Beterbiev is better on the record and better in the ring. If that fight happens, Beterbiev will hurt him and probably end this fight with a knockout.”
He was then asked if Bivol’s footwork might present problems for Beterbiev.
“I think Beterbiev’s power will overwhelm Bivol’s in-and-out footwork and skill set. I think Beterbiev is way too strong for this division.”
