Zuffa Make Moves in the UK Boxing Scene

Since signing a multi-year broadcast deal with Sky Sports, Zuffa has made moves to recruit UK talent. From established stars and former world champions to UK prospects from small hall shows, Zuffa is staking a claim in the UK boxing scene.

UK Talent Recruitment

In Bournemouth, former cruiserweight world champion Chris Billam-Smith will headline against Ryan Rozicki. Furthermore, there is conjecture around the signing of Billam-Smith and other cruiserweights as potential future opponents for Zuffa’s cruiserweight star and current Zuffa champion, Jai Opetaia.

The full card is now almost complete. Lee Cutler, a fellow Bournemouth fighter, has also been announced for the event. Cutler has not fought since his loss to Sam Egginton over a year ago, and his opponent has not yet been announced.

Meanwhile, Cutler’s former opponent Stephen McKenna has also been added to the card. McKenna has not fought since his 2024 loss to Cutler. He now takes on Casey James Streeter.

The addition of UK small hall boxers such as Alex ‘The Villain’ Macmillan, Sam Hickey, and Leon Hughes to the Bournemouth card is an exciting development. In addition, becoming Zuffa fighters gives them a chance to push onto the main stage with Sky Sports backing.

Because of the multi-year broadcast deal, these fighters will likely have opportunities to build support early in their careers.

Cruiserweight Competition and Career Opportunities

Jack Massey vs Chev Clarke serves as the co-main event for the Bournemouth card. It is a strong cruiserweight matchup and a welcome return for both men.

Jack Massey has struggled for momentum during periods of his career. However, he has only fought once since his defeat to Jai Opetaia.

Chev Clarke has also been inactive and has not fought since the end of 2025. Massey brings greater experience into the fight, with 26 professional contests compared to Clarke’s 13.

It seems apparent that Zuffa is signing boxers who have had limited movement in their careers recently, for one reason or another.

Although many people question Zuffa and hold strong opinions about the promotion, they deserve credit in this area. The company provides another option, another promotion, and another avenue for fighters instead of forcing them to wait for opportunities.

As boxing fans know, ring rust and the mental strain of stagnation can affect fighters over time. Therefore, more opportunities across the sport can only help boxers continue progressing in their careers.
