Zhilei Zhang beats Joe Joyce!

That right eye completely closed now and the doctor takes a look. This is going to be over soon one way or another. All Zhang has to do is throw the left, and that he does. The problem for Joyce is that he doesn’t throw a one shot knockout, he saps the energy of his opponent, and the sixth might be too early for Zhang to tire. An utter crisis for Joe Joyce.

At the end of the round the doctor speaks again to the referee and he waves off the fight. A huge upset in London!

Joyce starts faster again, and he needs to keep this up if he wants to take some of the power from Zhang’s shots. A lot of his work hits the gloves of the man from China. Zhang’s straight left is really damaging, and it just keeps coming. Joyce’s volume is up but they’re taps compared to what Zhang throws back. Could go either way depending on what you’re looking for.

Joyce might have just edged that round.

Joyce’s eye ballooning up not dissimilar to his own work on Daniel Dubois a few years back. He works past it, landing more on Zhang but that straight left is hitting the eye on the button every time its thrown. What a scrap so far, but not going Joyce’s way. Having said that, he lands his shot of the night that he’ll hope will slow Zhang down. ‘Big Bang’ punctuates the round with a bit one-two.

Zhang’s jab is whipping out, and the threat of the straight left is always there now he knows he can hurt Joyce. The Brit’s face not looking in a good way, and he needs his opponent to tire as many believe he will. Joyce works a combination off and closes the distance. Big hook from Zhang in the final minute, but Joyce takes it well.

Close round that could have gone either way.

Joyce starts quicker and lands a few to start the round, but nothing of note. Zhang’s throws back with much more intent and sends Joyce on a backwards step. He hurts Joyce with a big shot and he’s staggered. Unbelievable to see. Lands again with a straight left and Joyce’s legs are not strong. He fires back, but the punches have little in them.

The two Olympic Silver Medalists paw at each other for the first minute. Zhang lands a good combination, bouncing his shots off Joyce’s chin and reddening his face. ‘The Juggernaut’ not quite settling against the southpaw style just yet.

‘The Juggernaut’ has been talking about his frustration about not landing the big fights yet.

WBC champion Tyson Fury originally said Joyce would be next if the Usyk fight fell through, but ‘The Gypsy King’ has gone unusually quiet.

Joyce now claims that Usyk also doesn’t want any smoke against him.
