Adrien Broner’s comeback to the peak of the welterweight division is well underway and ‘AB’ has now announced what will be his first outing of 2024, almost twelve months on from his comeback win in June of last year.
A four-division world champion, Broner has fought just twice since losing a unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao in 2019, in an unsuccessful challenge for the Filipino’s WBA welterweight title.
Since then, he has returned to action twice, outpointing both Jovanie Santiago (14-0-1) and Bill Hutchinson (20-2-4) in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
Still, Broner now finds himself ranked as the number eight contender with the WBA and 15th with the WBC, in what is likely to be an extremely open division once Terence Crawford’s move up to 154lbs is confirmed.
Therefore, ‘The Problem’ could be just a couple of wins away from a shot at becoming a world champion for the first time in over eight years.
With a plethora of opportunities potentially available down the line, Broner has announced that his next contest will be against countryman Blair Cobbs (16-1-1), who was recently linked to a showdown with Conor Benn, but hasn’t fought since his victory over former super-lightweight champion Maurice Hooker in 2022.

The location and broadcaster of the bout is yet to be confirmed, but Crawford’s next move is expected to be announced imminently, amid rumours that he will step up to super-welterweight and vacate all three of his welterweight titles.
As a result, 2024 could prove to be a monumental year for Broner and increased activity makes a title opportunity in the near future appear extremely realistic, should he be successful against Cobbs.
