Frank Warren has revealed that former European heavyweight champion Agit Kabayel (20-0, 13 KOs) is the chosen opponent for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s (30-0-1, 21 KOs) ring return on December 5th.
Kabayel, a German national of Turkish descent, is best-known to British boxing fans for a one-sided decision win over Derek Chisora back in November 2017.
With Fury’s trilogy bout with former champion Deontay Wilder reportedly dead in the water, ‘The Gypsy King’ has been vocal of his wish to return to action before the end of the year. Warren, who shares Fury’s promotional responsibilities along with Top Rank’s Bob Arum, believes they have found the right man for the opposite corner.
“He [Kabayel] was the European champion and he’s ranked by the WBC.” Warren told TalkSport.
“That’s who’s sitting at the moment on a contract and we’re waiting.
“He’s got about 24 hours now to make his mind up to sign it and send it back or we’ll move on.”
Fury has not been seen in action since his spectacular trouncing of former champion Deontay Wilder in February, but Warren is confident a deal can be reached with Kabayel in the next 24 hours.
“Tyson’s fighting on December 5.
“We’re giving the guy we wanna fight, which is Kabayel, we’re giving him 24 hours now to sign the contract or we’re gonna move on.” Warren finished.
The news comes just days after Wilder released a bizarre video to social media wherein he accuses Fury and his team of alleged glove tampering, as well as extraordinary claims against his (now former) trainer Mark Breland, who Wilder claims may have drugged him before their Las Vegas rematch.
