AGON Sports Debuts in Mallorca with Two WBA Title Fights and Strong Cuban Presence

The capital of Mallorca is set to host an unforgettable night of international professional boxing on May 1, as AGON Sports Manachpresents its first ever gala on the Balearic island. The event will take place at the historic “Pueblo Español” in the heart of Palma, chosen for its unique atmosphere that blends Mediterranean charm with high-stakes sporting action.

“I’ve wanted to host an event in Mallorca for a long time, and now we have the perfect setting. ‘The Spanish Village’ Pueblo Español provides the perfect backdrop for our first event here in Mallorca. Spectators can look forward to more than just the two title fights. I promise there will be some exciting names and surprises on the undercard!” said AGON promoter Ingo Volckmann.

The evening will feature two WBA title fights as its main sporting highlights. In the flyweight division, AGON’s newest signing, Spanish contender Samuel Carmona (13-1-0), will challenge the experienced Venezuelan Rodrigo Ramirez (21-2-2) for the WBA Intercontinental title over ten rounds. Carmona looks to climb further in the world rankings in front of his home crowd.

In the heavyweight division, Cuba’s rising star “Cuban Hulk” Carlos Castillo Rodriguez (10-0-0, 6 KOs) will face Argentinian Jonathan Exequiel Vergara (9-3-0, 5 KOs) over ten rounds for the WBA Fedelatin title. Castillo aims to maintain his perfect record and cement himself as a serious international contender.

The undercard is equally compelling. Featherweight Saidel Horta, runner up at the 2023 Tashkent World Championships, will seek his second consecutive victory when he faces Venezuelan Fernando José Toro, who brings a record of 11 wins (9 KOs) and three defeats (2 KOs). Flyweight double world bronze medalist Alejandro Claro will test his skills against Colombian Edinson Martínez (15-7-3, 12 KOs), aiming to repeat the success of his previous outing.

Alberto Puig de la Barca, president of the Cuban Boxing Federation, confirmed that both duels will be contested over eight rounds. He also noted that the opponent for super-middleweight and two-time Olympic champion Arlen López (6-0), also a new addition to AGON alongside Horta, Claro, and fellow Cuban Yusnier Sorsano, has yet to be officially announced.

Further undercard fights will be officially announced in the coming days. Ticket sales will begin shortly.
