Undisputed lightweight champion, Devin Haney, believes a contest with Gervonta Davis is the biggest fight out there.
The 24-year-old is fresh off the second defence of his four belts – an extremely closely fought contest with Vasiliy Lomachenko. Despite calls to make a rematch with the Ukrainian, it appears he’s looking forward.
It’s no secret he’s tight at the weight, and moving up to super-lightweight is a very realistic option. If he decides to stay put and defend his belts, there are two names fans consider the most worthy – Davis and Shakur Stevenson.
Speaking on The Danza Project, Haney was asked who he would like to face next, and named Davis as the biggest fight.
“The biggest fight would be me and Tank. That’s the biggest fight. Obviously that would be the one.”
‘Tank’ is 29-0 with 27 stoppages, and, despite not being champion at the weight, largely considered to be the biggest financial draw. He’s been open to the fight, and the pair have sparred in the past.
Haney seemingly isn’t fazed by the knockout power, believing he’s ‘the best in the world’ and keen to show it in the ring.
“I want to fight the best fighters in the world. I want to prove myself. I want to continue to prove myself, because I know that I’m the best. I know I’m better than these guys.
They can say what they wanna say. I’m not ducking or dodging nobody. I’ve shown that. Anybody that I called out who wanted to fight, I fought them. I’m gonna keep doing it.”
He then admitted that he wasn’t certain who would be in the opposite corner for his next fight, what weight it would land at or even when it would be.
One thing’s for sure – there are plenty ready and willing.
