Amir Khan Names One Of His Biggest Regrets In Boxing: “He Spat His Dummy Out”

Amir Khan has been looking back over his career and has revealed the biggest regret he had, adding ‘he spat his dummy out.’

Khan had a decorated career that took in many of the sport’s biggest names from Danny Garcia to Luis Collazo, Devon Alexander to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

He was the youngest ever boxer to win Silver and the Olympic Games when he did so in Athens and was always in entertaining fights on his way to lifting world titles.

That said, he always chased two fighters that never quite happened for him – one with Manny Pacquiao, which he still talks about to this day, and one with Floyd Mayweather.

He has reflected on that and claims it was once a done deal but got canned.

“One of the biggest regrets of my life was with Floyd Mayweather, I was in the prime of my career and we did the deal to fight, we had a contract.

“I decided to announce it first and then Floyd spat his dummy out, he said ‘why have you announced it first?’ He thought he was the big star and it was up to him to announce it.

“I made that mistake, I posted ‘guys, I’m fighting Floyd Mayweather next’ and he got very bitter that I jumped the gun and it was off. I was young, 24 or 25, and I got excited about fighting a legend in the sport. But it is what it is.”

Khan bowed out two years ago with a loss to his long-term domestic rival Kell Brook but will still likely make it into the Boxing Hall of Fame after a fine career.
