Recently retired Amir Khan has given his thoughts on the rumoured clash between American duo Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia, as well as a future fight between Davis and Vasily Lomachenko.
On an Instagram live stream via FightHype.com, Khan said that ‘Tank’ not only beats undefeated Ryan Garcia, but also highly-rated Lomachenko should they ever go toe-to-toe.
“Tank is a beast, whoever they put in front of him, he doesn’t beat them. He destroys them. If Ryan Garcia and Tank fought, I’d go for Tank.”
“If Lomachenko fights Tank, I’d go for Tank again, although it’s a harder fight for him with it being very technical.”
However, the former unified light-welterweight champion thinks that Garcia has the “fastest hands in boxing” and said that if he perfects his game plan, he might have some success against ‘Tank’.
“I like Ryan Garcia, he needs to keep it long and box him, hit and move and don’t let Tank settle. When Tank settles, that’s when he gets them big power shots in, you don’t want to let him do that. You want to keep him moving.”
Roy Jones Jr recently likened the fight to a modern-day equivalent of Sugar Ray Leonard vs Tommy Hearns, and there has been talk amongst fans that it’s one of the biggest potential bouts in boxing. Khan believes that, whilst it’s a huge fight, it’s unlikely to break any pay-per-view records.
“It’s not like a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. So, I can’t see it breaking big records, but I think it will do four or five hundred thousand buys.”
Garcia remains optimistic that the fight can be made for this year, however we are yet to hear of any official announcement and talks have appeared to quiet down over recent weeks.
