Amir Khan has been retired for a while but it seems he is still holding out that he might one day face a man he long chased in Manny Pacquiao, and he has now revealed how he thinks it might happen this year.
It was almost a decade ago now that the welterweight division was the most popular in boxing. Names like Khan, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman and plenty more all ensured a thriving weight class with plenty of close battles.
Khan faced many of them on some epic nights but the two he almost coveted the most in Mayweather and Pacquiao got away from him.
His last fight was one of his most memorable and it came against long-term rival Kell Brook in Manchester back in February 2022 and ended with a knockout loss for the Bolton man.
Since then he has continued to mention Pacquiao’s name even though the Filipino legend himself is also retired. Now 37 he is apparently back in training and still chasing that fight.
He has recently told SunSport as much and revealed who the one man is that can make the fight take place.
“I mean I am training a little bit here and there but the thing is the only man that can make that fight happen is Turki Alalshikh.
“I think Turki Alalshikh can make that fight happen between me and Manny Pacquiao. Yeah, that’s a fight that would definitely lift me up, for sure.”
Pacquiao himself is now 45 and has been told he is too old to compete in the Paris Olympics despite that long being one of his dreams.
He has not fought since a loss to Yordenis Ugas in 2021 and the eight-division champion also failed in his bid to become president of his beloved homeland, the Philippines. Despite all the talk, it seems like this one final fight for Khan might always remain just a fantasy.
