Former heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz, has offered his thoughts ahead of this weekend’s WBC interim super-middleweight title contest between David Benavidez and Caleb Plant.
Ruiz famously knocked out Anthony Joshua in 2019 to win the WBA, WBO & IBF titles and although he lost the rematch to ‘AJ’, has managed to establish himself as one of the top contenders in the blue ribbon division.
Fans are eagerly awaiting this weekend’s fight between Benavidez and Plant, with a shot at Canelo Alvarez’s undisputed crown up for grabs and many are struggling to pick a winner for the fight.
However, Andy Ruiz appears confident in his prediction. Speaking in an interview with DAZN, Ruiz said:
“I have got my money on Benavidez.
He is just a bigger fighter, a stronger guy, ‘The Mexican Monster.’
Nothing against Caleb, he is a warrior, and we all risk our lives in the ring, but I just feel like Benavidez will be too much.”
As the undefeated fighter, Benavidez is going into the bout as the bookies’ favourite due to his phenomenal punching power and aggressive style. However, despite just thirteen stoppages in his twenty-two wins, ‘Sweet Hands’ Plant proved that his power is not to be underestimated, after he brutally stopped Andre Dirrell in his most recent outing.
Benavidez and Plant will take to the ring Saturday March 25th at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. The event is available for purchase across two different platforms, with fans in the United States being able to watch through Showtime PPV at a price of $74.99, whilst those in the U.K. can watch on Fite TV at a price of $12.99.
