His Old Trainer Watched That Win And Saw Something That Worried Him

Anthony Joshua has “a lot of work” to do before he shares a ring with Tyson Fury, according to his former trainer Rob McCracken, who was left unconvinced by the heavyweight’s ragged win over Kristian Prenga last month.

Joshua was dropped twice in the opening round by the Albanian before rallying to stop him in the second – hardly the statement he wanted with a long-awaited Battle of Britain with Fury expected in November. Speaking to Seconds Out, and as carried by Boxing News Online, McCracken pointed to that slow start as a genuine worry.

Why McCracken is worried about Anthony Joshua

It wasn’t a good night at the office [for Joshua], let’s be honest. They’ll have to put it right and see what went wrong. They’ve got to get a lot of work done to be ready for a bigger fight on the evidence of that.

Fury looked far from his best himself last month, labouring to a seven-round stoppage of 46-year-old Mariusz Wach. New York has been floated as the venue, according to several reports, but no date or location has been confirmed. McCracken, who guided Joshua until his 2021 defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, clearly senses there is plenty still to fix.
