Anthony Joshua has commented on Dillian Whyte’s failed doping test as well as past accusations from his domestic rival.
The pair were all set to run it back following a thrilling fight for the British Heavyweight title in 2015. One week out, Whyte was removed from the main event due to adverse findings by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency.
It’s the second time this situation has played out for ‘AJ’ following his 2019 encounter with Jarrell Miller being canned after the American returned positive doping test results.
In the past, Whyte has directed accusations at Joshua surrounding cheating. So did Miller before he was shown to have three banned substances in his system.
Joshua – who has never failed a doping test – is baffled by the accusations from two men that have.
“A lot of people say it about me. It baffles me, because how are you gonna talk so reckless about me when the two people that have said the most are the ones that have been caught up in these allegations?
I don’t wish bad on anyone. I’m not sitting here laughing at Dillian Whyte’s downfall. What he’s going through is difficult for him, but it’s not good for boxing.”
As for boxing again should Whyte be found guilty, Joshua says he can’t comment because the scale of punishment has been so off-kilter in the past.
“I don’t know. I’m gonna sit on the fence of that one, because why would you make a mockery out of him when there are so many other fighters they’ve found to be guilty and they’re still fighting? I find it strange.
We can mention people at the top and we can mention people that are at the bottom as well that have been found guilty for doping that are still fighting.”
With Whyte off the bill, Joshua now looks to sharpen his tools against Robert Helenius at London’s O2 Arena and live on DAZN worldwide.
