Anthony Joshua fights again this weekend in what will be his fourth contest in 11 months, but now the Brit has revealed when he thinks he will retire.
Joshua is a former two-time world champion who is currently working towards lifting a major belt for the third time. His last reign as champion ended with defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in 2022, and he failed to reverse the result in the rematch a year later.
In 2023 he got back to winning ways with solid re-build wins against Jermain Franklin, Robert Helenius and former Tyson Fury foe Otto Wallin. Now he is set to once again take on a former Fury foe when he enters the ring with Francis Ngannou this weekend.
The former UFC heavyweight champion has become an unlikely contender following his better-than-expected showing against Fury late last year but is still seen by many as the underdog, while Joshua himself has said he will ‘expose’ him.
Now, speaking to the revived BoxNation platform, he has revealed when he plans to hang up his moves.
“When I just can’t be bothered anymore. I think that’s it, when I can’t be bothered anymore.”
He was then asked what motivates him now.
“When you make it about money you make silly decisions. In the fight game, you have to face the music, money can’t be a driving force. It’s cause I have the chance to be great at something.
“It’s tough, don’t get me wrong. When’s enough? When I feel like I can’t get any better, when I can’t be bothered going back to there well.”
Right now it seems he has plenty more to give, starting this weekend.
