Anthony Joshua is targeting a quick return to the ring after his latest defeat.
The former two-time unified world champion was on the wrong end of a split decision against Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night.
Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) was taking on the Ukrainian in a money-spinning rematch for the WBA Super, IBF, IBO and WBO world heavyweight titles at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia.
Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) dethroned Joshua at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London last September and the Brit was unable to capture his titles once more after coming up short via a split decision.
The three ringside judges handed Usyk the win, by margins of 116-112, 115-113 and 113-115 as he picked up the recently-relinquished Ring Magazine title, but it was a much-improved display from Joshua with his new coach Robert Garcia in his corner for the first time.
And Joshua, who is promoted by Eddie Hearn and has been since turning professional back in October 2013, is eager to get back to winning ways and wants it to happen sooner rather than later.
Speaking in the post-fight press conference, Joshua said:
“So, I spoke to Eddie and I asked if it was possible to get out in November because I think momentum is important of boxing.
About who I fight: come one and come all, I will fight anybody.”
Joshua, since moving into the upper echelons of boxing and fighting for world titles, has notoriously been somebody who has boxed twice – or maybe, at times, just once – per calendar year.
He seems keen, however, to break that trend, looking to get back active again.
And this is something that his promoter Hearn agrees with:
“I would like to see him get out in December and I would like to see him have three to four fights next year.
[He needs to] start enjoying himself again and working his way back up to the championship belts.”
