Teddy Atlas is tipping Tyson Fury to emerge victorious against Anthony Joshua should the pair fight this year.
With contracts signed, both teams have 30 days to agree a site venue with Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn seemingly growing confident by the day that the undisputed heavyweight super fight will take place this summer.
Atlas is no stranger to big name heavyweights having trained the legendary Mike Tyson during the early stages of his career. The boxing analyst and coach was speaking about Joshua v Fury on the podcast, ‘The Fight with Teddy Atlas’ and the 64-year-old New Yorker believes ‘The Gypsy King’ could stop ‘AJ’.
“He [Fury] showed me he can go get you now and he can box, and pot shot and move. So, I’m going with [Fury]. Joshua can punch, Joshua’s a banger. He gets into position, but he’s going to have to get into that position.
“Fury is more versatile. Fury has more say because he can do more things.
“It’s going to be a humongous fight.”
Atlas spoke positively of Joshua describing him as a “good fighter” and a “good talent” but says he may not be far away from repeating the disaster that took place in his first fight against Andy Ruiz in June 2019. Joshua lost his world titles that night in The Big Apple at Madison Square Garden before gaining revenge six months later in Saudi Arabia.
“I think there could be a blackout again, where his confidence [goes],” Atlas said.
“I think that a blackout could happen in that generator of his again. He’s not far removed from being taken back to no lights.”
