Unbeaten Australian heavyweight Demsey McKean will fight in the UK before the end of the year with Tony Sims in his corner.
McKean’s promoters ACE Boxing Group announced the news on their social media channels today.
“Australia’s #1 heavyweight Demsey McKean is heading over to the UK to train at the Matchroom Elite Boxing Gym under Tony Sims. Demsey will be based in the UK for at least 6 months and will have a bout in England before the end of the year. Ace Boxing Group making opportunities for their world class roster during the pandemic.”
The news reiterates Matchroom’s interest in the Australian market after they signed the Jeff Fenech trained undefeated super-featherweight Brock Jarvis to a promotional deal earlier this month. And this weekend the working relationship between Matchroom and the ‘Blonde Bomber’ Ebanie Bridges takes her to Leeds when she fights at Headingley Stadium as part of the Mauricio Lara-Josh Warrington 2 undercard live on DAZN.
McKean, who will depart Australia for England on Wednesday, has amassed an unbeaten record of 19 wins with 12 inside the distance. The southpaw also has a top 15 world ranking with the WBO and IBF where Anthony Joshua reigns as their champion. Although the former amateur MMA fighter has yet to register a win of any real significance working alongside Tony Sims and his packed gym of stars, including Conor Benn and John Ryder, is an interesting move for both parties.
“I could not accomplish this without every one of my amazing and loyal sponsors to support me while I’m overseas chasing this dream of mine,” McKean wrote on his Instagram page.
