Tony Bellew is throwing more gasoline on the fire and is seriously after an MMA fight against UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping.
A boxing fight doesn’t really rock the boat for Bellew since he believes he would destroy Bisping.
“Michael [Bisping] wants to fight me in a boxing ring, which would be absolutely ridiculous. I do not want to render someone unconscious in twenty seconds. That does not appeal to me,” said Bellew to Boxing Social.
During the Mayweather-McGregor event, Bellew met with the owners of the UFC.
“If you are paying, I’m playing. If he wants to do it, I’ll do it. But I was willing to go in a cage. I met with some of the guys from the UFC while in Vegas. I did not meet with Dana [White] personally. I met with the owners of the UFC [WME-IMG] They say to me ‘are you serious, would you get in a cage’ and I said I would strangle Michael Bisping in a cage. I would be no problem,” told Bellew.
Bellew feels very confident that he could beat the UFC champion inside a cage because of the size difference.
“I fight at 200 pounds usually. I’m not stupid. I couldn’t play with Jon Jones [UFC Light Heavyweight Champion] at all. The guy would choke me and pull one of my arms out within seconds. If I was to get in an Octagon with Michael Bisping at 185 – he ain’t beating me in an Octagon or a boxing ring,” commented the WBC Emeritus World cruiserweight champion.
Bellew even said that he would get the best of Bisping on the ground as well and revealed what would it take to get him in a cage.
“How is he going to beat me? What’s he known for? A fantastic cardiovascular system. He’s walking running machine. He’s got amazing cardio. He outworks guys. He sometimes outstrikes guys. His strength is his work rate. His strength isn’t wrestling or jiu-jitsu. I would wrestle with Michael Bisping all day long. It would not be an issue. It would not be a problem,” he said.
Bisping was famously knocked out by MMA veteran Dan Henderson back in 2009. It is one of the famous highlight reel KO’s in MMA and UFC history.
“If he’d struck with me? You think the Dan Henderson knockout that he received was bad? Mine would be twice as bad. He would be out for a good ten minutes, not ten seconds,” said the Liverpudlian.
It’s not a surprise what would it actually take to Bellew to step into the Octagon.
“If The UFC/IMG show me same digits as boxing, I would go into the cage happily,” he summarised.
