Tony Bellew Says He ‘Won’t Kick A Man When He’s Down’ After Fighter Suffers 1st Round KO

Tony Bellew has seemingly called an end to his ongoing war of words with a boxer who has recently been knocked out in the first round, saying he ‘won’t kick a man when he’s down.’

Bellew’s feud with Brit Ohara Davies has been rumbling on for some time ever since Davies perceived Bellew to have ‘thrown him under a bus’.

They have traded insults on social media and Davies even stated that he would like to settle the score with Bellew in the ring, despite being many weight divisions smaller.

Davies did manage to find an opponent his own size this past weekend when he took on Ismael Barroso, a 40-year-old from Venezuela who fought for the vacant WBA super-lightweight belt last year but controversially lost to Rolando Romero on a questionable stoppage.

The younger man Davies, who has previously only lost to Brits Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall, was seen as the favourite but was caught cold and stopped in the first round, leaving Barroso to lift the interim title.

In the wake of that rest, Bellew was in no mind to gloat. He took to X to post a message to that effect.

“I’m being tagged in silly things and believe me I could add stuff but I won’t and wouldn’t! Never ever kick a man when he’s down! That kinda energy is a nasty one that I’ve witnessed come back to people.. I wish all good people luck cos believe me ya gonna need it ?”

Bellew was praised for his approach and has instead focussed on making an emphatic knockout win prediction for his friend Anthony Joshua in his upcoming fight with Francis Ngannou.
