Dillian Whyte is likely to confirm a new broadcast partner sooner rather than later as he looks to return to the ring.
The former WBC world heavyweight title challenger has been out since being stopped by Tyson Fury in a challenge for the green and gold WBC belt earlier this year.
Whyte was taken out by ‘The Gypsy King’ inside six rounds at Wembley Stadium in April and has since been plotting a return.
And it seems that the 34-year-old, who has already worked with the likes of Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren, may have another promoter to add to that list after Ben Shalom discussed the idea of ‘The Body Snatcher’ signing with Boxxer.
Shalom, the CEO of Boxxer, was discussing the possibility of Whyte joining his ever-growing stable of talent and fighting exclusively on Sky Sports as part of the deal during the fight week for Saturday’s postponed world middleweight undisputed clash between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall.
Shalom said when speaking to Boxing Social‘s Charlie Parsons:
“Dillian is a great guy and I really enjoy his company.
“The reality is that he is going to go where the most money is and I believe he deserves that at this stage of his career.”
Shields vs. Marshall was postponed in the wake of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II earlier this week and has been tentatively rescheduled for October 15, with the O2 Arena in London set to remain at the venue. Official confirmation of the new date will come in due course.
Whyte was ringside in Liverpool at the M&S Bank Arena last weekend as Liam Smith stopped former sparring partner Hassan Mwakinyo inside four rounds and Natasha Jonas outpointed Patricia Berghult to add the WBC world title to her WBO super-welterweight crown.
He had previously joined Shalom at the Merseyside derby, a football fixture between rivals Liverpool and Everton, and the promoter believes Whyte will soon choose who will guide the rest of his career in the sport. Regardless of the decision, he believes fans will see Whyte back in the ring this year.
“I think, if we are fairly close [to offering him the most money], he would love to be with us and would love to have the benefits of Sky, but he deserves to take the most money at this stage of his career.
“It’s just good he’s back, he’ll be back out this year and I look forward to seeing him back.”
