Tyson Fury’s US promoter, Bob Arum, has some choice words for Eddie Hearn as the parties try to keep negotiations for a fight with Anthony Joshua alive.
Arum, head of Top Rank, has been relatively quiet during the loud talks for Fury to face ‘AJ’ – most likely because it’s a fight that will be hosted in the UK. However, whilst Frank Warren and his team at Queensbury represent Fury in talks, he has publicly stated that he doesn’t think the fight will happen.
Whether or not his opinion has changed slightly, he’s now provided a reason for why hopes for the event are floundering. He told TalkSPORT that it was Eddie Hearn’s fault.
“Eddie Hearn is stalling everything because he doesn’t want the fight to happen.”
“And why doesn’t he want the fight to happen? Because Joshua’s lost three out of his last five fights and he figures to lose again if he fights Tyson Fury and so Eddie is in effect being an impediment.”
“I don’t know of any issues, he sends a draft and then Frank and George reply and then we don’t hear from Eddie for days, he’s stalling until it dies of its own volition.
“I don’t think Joshua is part of that. I think Joshua for whatever reason wants the fight to happen, I know Tyson Fury does.”
“Get in the goddamn room with the Warrens and sit down and finalise the contract and let’s get it signed. I don’t blame Tyson Fury for getting upset at what is happening.”
Hearn, Joshua and everyone on their side have been adamant that they want the fight to happen, and are keen to point out that they have agreed to the purse split, date and general terms without query.
Having said that, nothing has been announced and, in this case, no news is not good news. The waters are further muddied by ‘The Gypsy King’ offering the fight elsewhere as talks apparently continue. With December 3 booked at the Principality stadium in Cardiff, those involved need to get busy getting this over the line if it’s going to happen at all.
