Former IBF Super-Middleweight Champion, Caleb Plant, had made his pick for the upcoming all-American catchweight clash between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia.
Plant won the world title in 2019, when he defeated Jose Uzcategui, and went on to make three successful title defences before he was knocked out by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in a bid for the undisputed crown.
Since his first career defeat, ‘Sweet Hands’ has bounced back with a sensational stoppage win over Anthony Dirrell and is now set to fight David Benavidez for the WBC interim title at the end of the month.
In an interview with FightHype.com, Plant made his prediction for one of the must-see fights of 2023, which has now been officially confirmed to be taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“I favour Tank, I feel like he is the more complete fighter and that’s not to take anything away from Ryan.
I’ve known Tank for a long time, him and his coach Calvin [Ford] and that’s my guy. Not only is he my guy, but I have got full faith in him that he is going to get the job done.”
Davis and Garcia will step into the ring on April 22nd, with the event being available to purchase on both Showtime and DAZN pay-per-view in a rare cross-broadcasting deal which could be the start of a new precedent in the sport, where promotions and broadcasters work together.
Plant will take on Benavidez on March 25th at the MGM Grand, with the winner in line for a shot at the undisputed champion, Canelo Alvarez.
