Pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez says the tough challenge of conquering WBA light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol makes him ‘feel alive’.
Mexican star Canelo (57-1-2, 39 KOs) challenges Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) for his WBA 175lbs title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this weekend, live on DAZN.
The undisputed super-middleweight champion previously held world honours at 175lbs, having knocked out WBO champion Sergey Kovalev in brutal fashion back in November 2019.
Bivol, who has held his WBA title for four-and-a-half years, was last in action with a unanimous decision victory over Umar Salamov back in December 2021.
“When I work hard and do my best in the ring, I make a good fight for the fans,” Canelo said. “Thank you everybody and I’ll see you on May 7.
“I don’t care, I like challenges, it makes me feel alive – challenges for me in everything in my life. I like a good challenge and now I have a very good fighter in front of me and I’m excited for this fight.
“Bivol is a really tough fighter and it’s going to be a really good fight for Cinco de Mayo weekend with my people in Las Vegas – Mexican weekend. I’m really excited and I’m going to prepare really well because this fight is going to be really hard.”
