Canelo Alvarez has revealed what he believes to be the best knockout of his career to date – and it took place all the way back in 2015.
Canelo told DAZN that of his 39 career stoppages to date, the third round KO of James Kirkland was his own personal favourite.
“The knockout against Kirkland was spectacular. I felt his power, he was really strong.”
“He came to knock me out from the first round. So I had to do something fast because he was going to come at me the whole fight.”
“So it’s one of the most spectacular knockouts of my career.”

Canelo was campaigning at light middleweight back in those days – two weight classes and a full stone lower than the division he now holds all four belts in, super middleweight.
The Mexican got back to winning ways last time out in his third fight with long term foe Gennadiy Golovkin, being awarded a unanimous decision in what was ultimately an underwhelming contest, with the Kazakh’s best days visibly behind him and even Canelo perhaps not being quite at his best.
Where Canelo goes next is the topic of much speculation, with a rematch with Dmitry Biviol up at light heavyweight is rumoured to be his personal preference after the Russian handed him his defeat in over a decade back in May.
Fans have called for a showdown at 168lbs against David Benavidez, who many believe is Canelo’s toughest test at the weight. However, when asked about a potential fight with Benavidez, the undisputed champion seemed somewhat dismissive and played down the 25-year-olds credentials.
