Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has responded to a crossover call out highlighting how easy a victory would be.
The Mexican fighting great is currently undisputed super middleweight champion and arguably the biggest star in the sport.
It’s the latter status that makes him the ideal candidate for anybody looking for a mega-fight, and he’s been on the receiving end of crossover call outs from the likes of Jake Paul and Kamaru Usman.
The latest to throw their hat in the ring is Conor McGregor. The UFC superstar recently said that he would fight Canelo ‘no problem’, believing he had spotted holes in the champion’s game that he could exploit.
Canelo caught wind of the comments, and responded by saying he could beat McGregor ‘with one hand.’
Never one to be bested in trash talk, the Irishman took it further.
“Canelo you little ginger sausage. I’d beat you with NO HANDS. Don’t forget.”
The two have an opponent in common in Floyd Mayweather. They also share the fact that they lost to the American.
Mayweather beat Canelo over the distance in 2013. He would go onto fight McGregor in perhaps the biggest money-spinning event in the history of the sport in 2017.
It was the UFC double champion’s first pro boxing bout, and that showed. ‘Money’ Mayweather stopped him in tenth after never really looking in danger.
Whilst the trash talk between Canelo and McGregor will entertain fans, both have business in their own sports to see to for the time being. That said, this particular crossover bout would be one of the biggest ever and, for that reason, it’s perhaps not too pie in the sky.
