Someone once said that sweat is the scent of success. Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez may have just proved that.
The Mexican fighter, whose undisputed super middleweight titles are on the line this weekend, is getting ready to face long-time rival, Gennady Golovkin, for a third and presumably final time.
Tensions are expected to rise throughout the week as the fighters come face to face for a final press conference and a weigh in – thankfully it seems Álvarez can handle the heat.
He took to Instagram today to show off a pretty impressive amount of sweat being wrung from his sauna suit.
Sauna suits were designed to intensify workouts and shed water weight. Canelo is coming down from his last fight, in which he weighed in at 174lbs, to face ‘Triple G’ at 168lbs. Despite this, he’s comfortable at super middleweight and should have no trouble getting there.
On fight night, he’ll enter the ring to try and knock out the unified middleweight champion, Golovkin. It’s a big ask.
Despite ‘GGG’ being at the tail end of a career that was fought at middleweight, he will come in confident, boosted by the fact that he hasn’t touched the canvas in 44 fights. A win here would soothe some ill feelings he has had surrounding the results of the first two fights.
Canelo boasts an impressive chin too, with his only losses coming via decisions. The Mexican fighter, who some already view as an all-time great, will be desperate to get back to winning ways after a valiant but unsuccessful attempt at a light heavyweight title. On top of that, he really isn’t a fan of Golovkin.
The fight marks the closing chapter of a bitter and controversial rivalry. The undisputed tag means a lot, but there will be so much more at stake come Saturday night in Las Vegas.
