Former super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch has voiced his opinion on the ongoing saga with Tyson Fury and the cut that ruled him out of the undisputed title clash against Oleksandr Usyk, with Froch believing there are secrets being kept from the public.
Fury-Usyk was set to be one of the biggest fights since the turn of the millennium, with a first ever four-belt heavyweight champion being crowned in a historic and legacy-defining bout.
However, last week the news broke that Fury had been forced to withdraw from the contest after receiving a serious cut during sparring, with the fight date pushed back to May.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Froch examined the cut and explained why he thinks it may have occurred earlier during training camp.
“I’m not so sure [that it will happen in May]. To start with, I wasn’t so sure about the cut, I wanted to see the cut and I wanted to see him stitched up.
“After seeing Tyson Fury last night on his Instagram, the cut to me doesn’t look like an acute injury, it looks like an injury that is healing. It is scabbed over, the swelling has gone down, and the bruising looks about a week to ten days old.
“What difference that has I don’t know but have they been sitting on this and waiting for the right time to give the news?”
Froch also went on to question whether the fight may go ahead on the announced re-arranged date.
“That sparring footage may or may not have been the right footage but it must’ve been filmed on a Nokia 8210 because it was blurry and horrible and then we never saw the cut after he got elbowed.”
“I’m devastated that it’s not happening in two weeks and I am still a little bit dubious, I’ve got my reservations as to whether or not that fight will happen in May.”
For now at least, Fury-Usyk will instead take place on May 18th, with fans around the globe praying for no further hiccups.
