Derek Chisora has responded to the WBC’s investigation into Conor Benn’s doping case that concluded a ‘highly-elevated consumption of eggs’ was a reasonable explanation for the banned substance in his system.
The conclusion was announced this week, and stated that the World Boxing Council found ‘no conclusive evidence’ of intentional ingestion. It means the undefeated fighter can re-enter the sanctioning body’s ranking system and fight for their titles.
When asked about the outcome by Behind The Gloves, veteran heavyweight, Chisora, highlighted the involvement of eggs and asked the interviewer how much she thought Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, paid for it.
“So, to all you kids out there, don’t eat too much eggs. You know what, I’m going to stop eating eggs.
How much you think Eddie Hearn paid for that? How much you think Matchroom paid for that? Cause right now Matchroom don’t have a big draw on DAZN. What does that tell you?”
Later in the interview, Chisora said the he ‘loved’ Hearn and his promotional company, Matchroom.
Benn is reportedly unhappy with some of the wording in the WBC’s official statement, and is consulting with his lawyers on how to proceed on that point.
Despite the good news from the WBC, he also has a British Boxing Board of Control investigation looming over him should he want to compete in the UK when he makes his ring return.
This has been marred by, according to the Board, a lack of evidence provided by Benn. It’s unclear if he will ever make himself available to their case, or proceed down a route of fighting on foreign soil for the foreseeable.
Hearn has outlined plans to get him back fighting in April at the earliest and June at the latest.
