Derek Chisora believes there’s a clear favourite should Anthony Joshua face Dillian Whyte for a second time in their professional careers.
Joshua beat Whyte via seventh round knockout in 2015 to win the British Heavyweight title and put a full stop on a vicious domestic rivalry.
He would go on to unify the world titles in the division whilst Whyte built back and fought his way to the top level. During that time, the Brixton man had two wins against Chisora – one a close split decision and the other a conclusive, highlight reel knockout.
With Joshua now out of the title picture and looking for big fights with fellow contenders, talk of running it back with Whyte has come around – and it just may happen on August 12.
Asked who’s the favourite by Seconds Out, ‘Del Boy’ picked the former world champion.
“AJ. [There’s a] bigger gap now. AJ’s progressed more than Dillian.”
As to whether or not the fight happens, Chisora isn’t sure that Matchroom will reach the number Whyte – who has recently called the talks ‘not serious’ – is looking for.
“We don’t know. Maybe they’re gonna give Dillian Whyte the right money he wants, but right now he’s saying he wants more money.”
“We’ve made an offer to Dillian, he’s definitely not accepting that offer, he doesn’t have to. He’s always going to want more money than I think is the right number for that fight.
We are talking to two other fighters about fighting on August 12th. There is a chance it might not be Dillian Whyte, but we have to make a move this week really or the beginning of next week.”
Joshua is expected to fight August 12 regardless of whether or not it’s this reignited domestic rivalry. Should he win, a Deontay Wilder fight in Saudi Arabia apparently awaits.
