British slugger, Dereck ‘ Del Boy’ Chisora has evaluated the performance of Dillian Whyte during his tedious encounter against Finland’s Nordic Nightmare where he claimed the WBC ‘Silver’ Heavyweight title in a drab affair. There has been a long-running feud developing between the two since they signed to fight the first time in 2016 in a fight of the year contender which has seen a sizable clamouring for a rematch to take place between the two.
“Dillian Whyte’s fight was not that great at all,” Chisora said exclusively to Sky Sports and went into detail as to how Whyte didn’t impress him.”Robert didn’t come to fight. Dillian was trying to fight, trying to be a bit like me, but he was doing a poor version of me. The first three rounds, he was trying to blast Helenius out, and Helenius nearly stopped him. Nearly knocked him out, wobbled him a little bit.” Chisora also went on to ridicule his former adversary’s technique by stating ” He tried to go with the cross hook style, but he hasn’t got the rhythm to go with that. He was moving his head, but it was moving in slow motion, and he would chuck a shot and it would miss by a mile” Chisora said.
When pressed to grade Whyte’s performance, Chisora was very frank with his response and suggested he does not warrant the world title shot that he is trying to push for “On that performance, he would have to take an ‘F’. He might have won, but he would have to take an ‘F’. For a guy who is screaming for a world title shot, and the way he boxed off balance, that’s not great.”
It has been heavily mooted that Dillian Whyte could challenge Deontay Wilder for his WBC world heavyweight championship after Eddie Hearn confirmed negotiations have been ongoing ahead of a clash in the first quarter of 2018. “If I was Deontay Wilder and I wanted to make a quick, easy, $4 million [then I would fight him],” said Chisora before going on to take one last shot at his rival’s pugilistic skillset “Deontay Wilder’s sparring partners have got more skills right now than what we saw Dillian Whyte do the other day.”
Chisora also touched on a text message exchange between the pair following the fight, where he directly voiced his disappointment in Whyte’s performance “I sent him a message, saying ‘Mate, that was wrong. I don’t know what you were doing? Yeah he responded saying: ‘Not every fight has to be a war’. I was like, ‘I don’t even know what that was?’
On a final note, Chisora said while he understands his opponent’s desire to seek a world title opportunity, he should accept the chances of a title shot are bleak and should instead focus on part II to their saga. “Yeah, he ain’t going nowhere. The fight with Deontay Wilder is not going to happen. He’s going to have to fight me” Chisora concluded.
