Chris Eubank Jr has had a dig at Conor Benn in a recent interview, claiming Benn has ‘stolen his Christmas’ by causing their October mega fight to fall through.
The bout was cancelled on fight week after news broke that Benn, who was stepping up nearly two full weight classes, returned a positive VADA test.
Negotiations for Eubank to face Liam Smith on Sky Sports commenced shortly after and earlier this month it was confirmed the two Brits would lock horns in Liverpool on January 28th.
However, Eubank has clearly not forgiven Benn and told the Liverpool Echo he would be seeking revenge on the 25 year old for forcing him to train and eat clean over the festive period.
“Liam Smith hasn’t stolen my Christmas, Conor Benn has and it’s another thing he will have to pay for eventually.”
“A January fight makes Christmas a lot more miserable. I’m going to have to cut down on turkey and pigs in blankets, which is unfortunate.”
“But that’s part of being a fighter, you have to sacrifice things you want to do. I’ve done it before and it is just part of the job.”
Eubank vs Smith will be the first Sky Sports pay per view offering of 2023 and will take place at the latter’s natural weight class of 160lbs, with ‘Beefy’ moving up from 154lbs.
As for Benn, fans still await news on what sanctions, if any, he will face for the two failed drugs tests he submitted in the months prior to the doomed Eubank fight.
‘The Destroyer’ released a statement last week after a long period of silence, blasting those In the sport who had criticised him and claiming that his team had proved his innocence, though no there was no insight into the specifics of this.
