Over seven years ago, Conor McGregor stepped through the ropes to make his boxing debut in ‘The Biggest Fight in Combat Sports History’ against a pound-for-pound legend in Floyd Mayweather. Now, after years of inactivity in both the world of boxing and in the UFC, the ‘Notorious’ one is being linked with a boxing comeback against a polarising Brit.
Mayweather-McGregor will live long in the memory as one of the most hotly-anticipated and well promoted events of all-time, registering the second-highest number of pay-per-view buys of all-time (4.3 million) – behind only Mayweather-Pacquiao.
However, the fight itself was less eventful as Mayweather dominated for the most part and put on a boxing clinic before halting the Irishman in the tenth-round, glimpses of quality displayed by the debutant in the early exchanges well forgotten by that point.
McGregor has not re-entered the squared circles since that 2017 loss and has fought on just four further occasions in the Octagon, where he suffered stoppage defeats in three of those contests.
Yet, a return to Queensberry Rules has always been a possibility for most of the most high-profile figures in the history of combat sports, with Terence Crawford and Jake Paul being the most recent names to be mentioned for a potential comeback.

Speaking with Steve Bunce on the 5 Live Boxing Podcast, middleweight world title hopeful Chris Eubank Jr. revealed that there have been talks for a showdown with the two-division UFC champion and that he is ‘open to exploring’ the proposal.
“You know, there’s actually been talks of me and him actually having a boxing match at some point,”
“The fans have said that they want to see that. How interesting that would be. That’s definitely something that I’m open to exploring, let’s just say that.”
Before Eubank Jr. can give his full attention to a fruitful clash with McGrgeor, he must first get past Poland’s Kamil Szeremeta, whom he fights on October 12th on the blockbuster Beterbiev-Bivol undercard.
